Gill Scheltinga is the Chairperson of Trefriw Walking Festival, and was responsible in 2013 for the establishment of this now annual event.
For the first two years the Festival was run under the auspices of Cerdded Conwy Walks, but since 2015 it has been organised and run totally independently. Gill, as the driving force, is now supported by a committee, an enthusiastic and talented team of volunteers who likewise all live in Trefriw.
In 2014 Gill oversaw the awarding of Walkers are Welcome status to the village (Trefriw is the only village in Snowdonia to hold this accreditation) and under this banner she also reintroduced the Trefriw Mill Race - an 11-mile fell race - to the village after an absence of some decades.
Under Gill’s enthusiastic leadership the Walking Festival continues to go from strength to strength, and is now considered to be Snowdonia’s premier walking event; in May 2018 some 250 walkers attended 20 walks during the three-day event, which some regulars described as the best festival to date.
